Famous for its unique combination of sand, sun, bush, and relaxed village vibe means Kiwi holidaymakers flock to the ocean beaches and saltwater estuaries of Whangamatā to enjoy this popular aquatic playground. But there is so much more to this seaside town.

Coromandel Forest Park borders the area and provides many other outdoor experiences, including short walks, mountain bike trails and old gold mining sites. The town also has one of the best shopping centres in the region. Many of the houses are holiday homes - providing weekend refuge and the classic Kiwi beach bach holiday. Whangamatā is also home of the Beach Hop, a five-day celebration of '50s and '60s culture.
