The Pinnacles with Rach Stewart

Rach Stewart is a landscape, travel and adventure photographer based in Mount Maunganui, which is great for us because it means she gets to The Coromandel now and then.  Rach loves the beach, but the mountains come a close second.  She specialises in long exposure, which brings a special and unique quality to the images captured by her lens.

You can view her photo gallery and follow her adventures in the great outdoors on Instagram.

It was dark when Rach and her friend made their way up the Webb Creek track to the Pinnacles Hut for the night.  It's one of the largest Department of Conservation huts in the country, so there's plenty of room, although you do need to book online.

Up early the next morning, it was the sunrise Rach was waiting for.

The views out over the highest point of this part of The Coromandel ranges are expansive.  You can see Mount Paku, Tairua, and Slipper Island, off the coast of Pauanui. The ever-changing mood up here makes for some spectacular colours and cloud formations.

Keen to make the trip to The Pinnacles, and discover why this hidden treasure, just up the valley from Thames, is a "must do" on The Coromandel?  Here's how: The Pinnacles
