Your weekend starts at 3.30 pm on Friday from our base in COLVILLE, around three hours from Auckland, Hamilton or Tauranga.  Bring your own bike or hire a quality electric bike from us.  Park up your car, load up the panniers and ride the 17kms to TANGIARO KIWI RETREAT over a quiet, gravel road. (Gear delivery available).

The 4 star Retreat is nestled at the base of a bush clad valley under the shadows of Mt Moehau.  It is home to one of the largest kiwi populations located on privately owned land.  With accommodation ranging from cabins, to chalets to a larger lodge this will be the base for your weekend stay.  BYO food to self cater or visit the onsite licensed restaurant and let the staff take care of you.

Saturday is full of surprises as you bike or hike out and back along the COROMANDEL COASTAL WALKWAY.  The first 12kms to Stony Bay is over a quiet, backcountry road.  Take your time, sightsee as you go, the day is all yours.

Head in to the Walkway through regenerating native bush with glimpses of the stark, rugged coastline beside the inky blue sea.  4kms in is the Lookout with its sought after views of Sugarloaf, the Pinnacles and beyond to Great Barrier.  Another 2kms further, park up the bike and hike down into Poley Bay with its own version of Pancake Rocks on the shore below.  The return trip back to the Retreat is just as appealing as you revisit the views, equally as impressive in reverse.

Celebrate your success at the completion of 36kms with a prebooked massage (available from Sept) and a soak in the outdoor spa.  Hit the restaurant for a well earned meal and reflect on what a great day it has been.

Sunday sees you return by bike to Colville around 1pm via Waikawau Beach before the trip back to civilisation.

This weekend would be a great option for those getaway from it all Christmas Party plans or even those team building events.

Notes: The Walkway is a dual use track and the section suggested is a Grade 2 Level, please give way to hikers.  The track is well formed with an easy gradient but there are a handful of small streams to cross.  More experienced riders can ride these or you may choose to push your bike through.

For those with superior biking skills there is the option to bike the loop around the Mountainbike Track returning along the Coastal Walkway.  This adds about 6kms and climbs to 500 metres delivering stunning views, but a word or warning, it is not for the faint hearted.
